Job club running 6 week courses.

Update on community activities

We were recently sitting and reflecting on all the activities that have taken place at the The Bus Stop Club since we opened the building 4 years ago and felt it was a good time to bring you up-to-date with community activities we have organised.

there have been so many activities people in the community have participated in.

From the Job Club and the I.T workshops which have been running for three years – we have helped over 100 people improve their computing skills with many people go on to find jobs after attending the Job Club as well.

Our Friday night cafe which operates during term time is popular throughout the year and very much so in the winter months. Its just completed its second year of operation and provides nutritious, generous and tasty meals for a very, VERY reasonable price. Its a great time for families to come together eat, chat and relax before heading home or elsewhere.

The Make Lunch Sessions have been well attended and provided a ‘fun time’ for families during the school holidays.

The After School Club open on Wednesdays has proved very popular with families – giving kids access to computers for homework and game time, the craft activities running along side allow parents and kids to access materials they might not have at home – a creative space and time exploring different themes.

We also run Money Management Courses using CAP material which is a completely FREE and confidential money management and debt counselling service. It is available to everyone who has an income of wages and/or benefits and helps people learn to manage money and expenditure more effectively.

Last year the East Dorset CAP Centre opened at the Turbary Resource Centre and we have helped over 16 families tackle their debt situation with 2 families becoming debt free just after one year. This service is aimed at anyone who has a debt they feel they need help with. A couple of questions you can ask yourself – are you struggling to pay your bills, are you falling further into debt? If so, then the team at the centre can help you.

The Parenting and Cooking Courses have given parents and families the encouragement to build better relationships and whilst cooking to enjoy the meals and take the ideas home to try out.

We are continuing to run activities to benefit the community and we will bring you news on those in a further update!
