Ukrainian families join Easter activity week!

Fun painting together in the sun

Last week we took full advantage of the Spring sunshine and worked with individual local families and those newly arrived from Ukraine. The focus was on crafts, which we interspersed with other activities. It was a lovely time spent together relaxing and being creative.

On the Monday, a nourishing cooked lunch was enjoyed by all. We also resourced several families with fresh food and items from our store cupboard.

Below are more pictures of the craft that was enjoyed by both adults and children.

We will continue to offer practical support to individual families over the rest of this term with financial support from Cash 4 Kids. As requests come in, we are filling welcome boxes with toys and food for Ukrainian families in our area.  Boxes are either delivered to homes or collected from our Centre along with a craft bags for school age children stuffed with all sorts of creative activities.

We have already have had some lovely feedback from hosts and guests, thanking us for the food and craft.  It is just a small way of saying ‘you are so welcome’.

Welcome Boxes for Ukrainian Families

We are boxing up a selection of our donations of toys, food and clothes to help Ukrainian refugees as they arrive in our area. These are arranged through ‘Dorset for Ukraine’ on social media where posts and requests are made and then processed locally.

We aim to be doing a welcome box for each family as they are made known to us. Our very best wishes and warmest welcome goes out to these families in greatest distress. Thank you to all who have made donations.

Nearly 200 Tins of Food for Ukraine

Donated tins going to help Ukrainian refugees

We are thankful for the donations of nearly 200 ring pull tins, which we have taken to a collection point for transport to places near Ukraine. This will provide emergency food aid where its most needed for those fleeing the conflict. Our prayers are very much with all those caught up in this crisis.

Christmas Hampers of Goodies

Families linked to our various projects at the Turbary Resource Centre each received a hamper full of Christmas treats, groceries and a small gift this Christmas. This includes individuals on our MOAT courses for anxiety and trauma management coaching, CAP Debt clients, those in crisis locally and others referred for 1-2-1 support. In addition to this, households with children enjoyed their own age-appropriate craft bag. (See related article.)

Susan Sutherland, manager of the Turbary Resource Centre, would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the local stores, churches and individuals who donated food and items as well as the lovely volunteers who helped assemble these. Thank you!

CAP’s Heaped Christmas Hampers!

At Christmas our East Dorset CAP Debt Centre was supplied with generous donations of groceries, Christmas items, treats and finance for purchasing personalised gifts. It is all thanks to local stores, churches and individuals that Christmas was made that much more special for those we support. This enabled us to supply both a Christmas hamper plus a groceries hamper to each of our client’s who are working their way through their respective journeys out of debt.

Executing such a great project would not have been possible without our small band of amazing volunteers giving their time and petrol. Not only did they help sort and assemble all these hampers, but helped Pam, the local Centre Manager for Christians Against Poverty, to deliver these to each household in the run up to Christmas.

A big thank you goes to Stone Family Butchers in Ferndown who donated 24 chickens, which we delivered to our clients on Christmas Eve! We are sincerely grateful to Sainsbury’s for a grant with which we purchased a slow cooker for each family to support their budgets and help reduce cooking fuel bills.

Here’s what some families said:

The presents and food was amazing, it saved Christmas! Thank you!

The chicken is great as we don’t like the taste of turkey, thank you very much!

We were overwhelmed with the gifts!… Thank you all very much and we wish you all a lovely Christmas.

From the staff and team at CAP East Dorset, Bearwood and Ringwood – thank you to all who made this initiative possible!
